Troop 168 earns Honor Troop Award at Rodney Scout Camp
Our Scouts earned the Honor Troop Award at summer camp the week of June 20-26, 2021, at Rodney Scout Reservation in North East, MD. This marks the eight consecutive camping* year T168 earned this distinction! To earn the Honor Troop Award, the Troop must maintain a healthy and safe campsite and participate in several camp-wide competitions and events.
During the week at camp, T168 Scouts earned 67 merit badges in diverse areas: ACE (Advanced Camper Experience), Animation, Archery, Auto Maintenance, Aviation, Basketry, Camping, Canoeing, Chemistry, Citizenship in Community, Climbing, Communication, Cooking, Cycling, Engineering, Environmental Science, Family Life, First Aid, Fishing, Game Design, Geocaching, Jetski, Kayaking, Leatherwork, Motorboating, Moviemaking, Nature, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Personal Fitness, Photography, Programming, Reptiles, Rifle Shooting, Robotics, Sculpture, Signs Signals & Codes, Small Boat Sailing, Space Exploration, Swimming, Water Sports, Weather, Wilderness Survival, and Woodcarving. (A few on this list were merit badges that a Scout had one or two outstanding requirements which he was able to complete during the week.) During the week, seven (7) Scouts also advanced in Rank.
* Camp Rodney did not host its traditional summer camp during 2020.
Scouting for Food 2020
Cub Scouts from Pack 168 delivered Scouting for Food flyers to several Carlisle neighborhoods on November 7th. On Saturday, November 14th, Scouts from Troop 168 recanvassed the same areas, collected the donations, and delivered all to Project Share.
The combined efforts of Scouts from Pack 168 and Troop 168 resulted in 300 bags (1,400 pounds) of food.
Troop 168 had a terrific 2019!
Two highlights are that once again we earned the Gold rating on our Scouting's Journey to Excellence (2019) and the Pope Paul VI Award.
We also had over 50% of the troop advance at least one rank -including 6 Eagle Scouts. We did multiple service projects for our sponsor, Saint Patrick Church, and others, including 8 Eagle Projects. We went to the Klondike, Wizard Safari, the Naval Academy STEM Camporee, Merit Badge College, Catholic Camporee, Camp Rodney, and our own Backpacking campouts and activities.
We anticipate that 2020 will be another fun and successful year!
On 10/29/2018, T168 Troop Committee approved a document titled Troop 168 Guidance. All T168 Scouts and families should familiarize themselves with this document and its expectations.
Troop 168 has earned the Pope Paul VI National Catholic Unit Excellence Award for the 11th consecutive year!
Cooperation, development, and program are the key words in the recognition of Catholic chartered units in earning the National Catholic Quality Unit Award - Pope Paul VI. The adult leadership responds to training not only in Scouting lores, but training in Catholic Scouter Development, and religious counseling. The Scouts in each Pack, Troop, Team, and Crew/Ship respond by participating in the religious emblems program respective of their status in Scouting.
Troop 168 wishes to thank George Pollin for making the stands to display our wooden Oath and Law!
